Citizenship and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are offered in-person and virtually each week.
In-person classes are located at Weatherly Heights Baptist Church on Wednesday mornings 9:30am to 12:00pm and Wednesday nights at 6pm. No registration is required.
Online classes take place throughout the week on Zoom. Registration for these classes is required for enrollment.
Beginning, intermediate and advanced ESL classes focus on listening, reading, writing, pronunciation and conversation as they study English grammar. Various classes use different books, and the teachers will share this information with the students. If a student thinks a class is too easy or too difficult, they may try other classes. Classes are free, and everyone is welcome.
Conversation
Students who have studied English but want more practice in listening and speaking may want a conversation class. Classes are offered at intermediate and advanced levels. Teachers may provide help with grammar and pronunciation as students learn to understand and carry on a conversation in English. Some teachers provide topics for discussion and students share their culture as they learn about life in Huntsville.
U.S. Citizenship
These classes study the process and requirements for becoming a U.S. citizen. Students receive assistance in the application process and practice the government, history and geography questions on the civics test. Students must be able to read and write English. There is an in-person class at the church and an evening class on Zoom. Students may join the class at any time during the year.
