Weatherly Heights Baptist Church began as a mission of a local church,
meeting in the home of Burt and Janet Carpenter atop Weatherly Mountain. From those early gatherings, Weatherly quickly grew into a thriving congregation, establishing its own identity with the construction of a chapel and sanctuary on Weatherly Road.
Throughout our history, Weatherly has been defined by a progressive spirit and commitment to inclusion.
We were among the first Baptist churches in Alabama to ordain women as clergy and deacons
Established an English as a Secondary Language (ESL) program to support Huntsville’s growing migrant population.
Traditions of welcome and service continue today as we embrace Ukrainian refugees, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and others seeking a spiritual home.
Our worship reflects a blend of tradition and creativity.
From the enduring beauty of our Lovefeast services and inspiring choir to our hands-on ministry in the community, we strive to connect people to God through faith, service, and fellowship.
In 2024
Weatherly called Rev. Valerie Burton as pastor. Valerie brings a vision of creating spaces of belonging where everyone can bring their whole selves into the life of the church. Rooted in contemplative faith practices and a commitment to curiosity, flexibility, and creativity, Valerie embraces Weatherly’s mission to be a boldly inclusive, faithfully thinking, and progressively Baptist church.
Today
Weatherly Heights Baptist Church continues to honor its history while casting bold new visions for how we can meet the needs of our diverse, post-pandemic world. We are a place where the Spirit of God moves freely, and where all who seek belonging will find a home.
