Just Trying to See Jesus

We all know the song about the “the wee little man” named Zacchaeus. He may have been small in stature, but he had a giant conversion experience.

Baptists have fought battles over the Bible. Is it infallible? Inerrant? Inspired? Or a book of wise sayings? Just what are we to believe about the Bible?

Lamentations 1:1-6; Luke 17:5-10 I’ve never heard anyone say that the parable I read from Luke 17 is their favorite parable. Never.

Whether we know it or not, we are still influenced by the eighteenth century preacher/theologian Jonathan Edwards. His famous sermon, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” depicts God as vengeful and punishing. How different our world would be if we saw God as gracious.

Some call him a scoundrel. He certainly worked the system. Yet Jesus commended him, calling him “shrewd.” Is there a place for shrewdness in Christian faith?

“He was lost and is found!” the loving father said of his prodigal son.  What does it mean to be lost?  And more importantly what does it mean to be found?
